| This section was designed to provide you with
a basic look into culture and sensitivity testing for leopard
geckos. It
is often one of the most useful medical techniques and
diagnostic tools available at your veterinarians disposal.
Please read our Disclaimer
before reading any further into these common medical techniques
and procedures.
Why may culture and sensitivity testing be necessary for your
leopard gecko? It can help you and your
veterinarian better assess and understand the medical
problems that your gecko may be experiencing. This
technique is utilized to aid both in the identification of
microorganisms that may be causing symptoms of disease as
well as the selection of the most appropriate antimicrobial
agent (medicine).
Many veterinarians will also employ this technique to
re-evaluate a given therapeutic plan if the gecko is not
responding favorably to it. The sensitivity part will
determine the effectiveness of a given antibiotic against
the particular microorganism that has been cultured from the
leopard gecko.
