Gecko Special Health Topics: Transporting Leopard Geckos
| |
This section was designed to provide you with
some ideas on how to safely transport your leopard gecko.
Things To Do:
- Use a small plastic container or even a deli cup lined
with some paper towel. We prefer to use something
opaque (ie dark).
- If using a larger transport container, wrap a warm
water bottle in a towel and place this in the
container. Ensure that your gecko cannot come into
direct contact with the water bottle.
- You can also provide the necessary heat using an
air-activated heat pack that should also be wrapped in a
towel.
- Be sure to provide the necessary ventilation openings
on either the lid or the sides.
- Provide a separate container for each leopard gecko if
you have to transport multiple geckos.
- Keep your leopard gecko in the container until you get
it home.
- Keep the leopard gecko in the same container that you
purchased it in until you get it home.
Things To Avoid:
- Avoid putting the container with the leopard gecko in
the path of direct sunlight.
- Avoid exposing your leopard gecko to temperature
extremes - ie those that will be too hot or too cold.
- Avoid exposing your leopard gecko to any toxic
substances or fumes while transporting it home.
- Avoid placing the container on your dash board or in
front of vents in your car.
